A song of ascents
128:Title See \xt Ps 120.⚜

📚Blessed is every one
who fears the LORD,
who walks in his ways.
128:1 This psalm gives a beautiful picture of an ideal home. The husband is a God fearing man, successful in his work. His wife stays home and sees to the affairs of the house and the rearing of the children. The children are healthy and thriving. The blessing of God rests on them all. Notes on “blessed” at Ps 1:1. Notes on “fear” at Ps 34:11-14; 111:10; Job 28:28; Prov 1:7. The fear of the Lord causes us to walk in His ways. It is useless to think or say we fear the Lord or to hope for His blessing if we do not do what He says (Ps 1:1-3; 119:1-3; Jer 6:16; 7:23).⚜
2 📚For you will eat the labour
of your hands.
You will be happy,
and it will be well
with you.
128:2 See Ps 58:11; Isa 3:10. In the Old Testament prosperity was sometimes a sign of God’s blessing (Ps 1:3; Gen 24:35).⚜
3 📚Your wife will be like a
fruitful vine within your house,
your children 📖 like olive plants
around your table.
128:3 Happy the home where the wife honors her husband, and lovingly occupies herself with her children and household duties – 1 Tim 5:14; Titus 2:4-5; 1 Pet 3:5-6.⚜
4  📖See that the man who fears
the LORD will be blessed
like this.
5 📚The LORD will bless you
out of Zion 📖,
and you will see the good
of Jerusalem 📖
all the days of your life.
6 📚Yes, you will see your children’s
children.
Peace be on Israel!
128:5-6 When the foundation is right one’s whole life can be full of hope, joy, and blessing.⚜
